Honi ha-Meaggel (Honi the Circle-Drawer)
(fl. 1st cent, BCE)
   Palestinian miracle worker. His name originated from his habit of drawing a circle around himself, which he refused to leave until hs prayer was granted. According to the Talmud, his prayers for rain were efficacious. During the war between Aristobulus II and Hyrcanus II, he was seized by the supporters of Hyrcanus and told to curse Aristobulus and his army; when Honi ha-Meaggel refused to comply, he was stoned to death.
